Greetings from Adelaide
12/28/2004 02:03:00 AM

Yes. Quite.

I have achieved something the last day. I travelled to Adelaide.

I sit here at 1.45am at Jess' house (she's my biggest fan, she reads this blog more than she checks her email, I swear ;)) with my brother and Jess' brother, Julian, playing GTA San Andreas right behind me whilst I'm chatting to Andrew on MSN who is multi-tasking and talking to Jess on the mobile phone. We're a complete and happy circle of friends.

Adelaide is actually smaller than I had expected (sorry, Jess, but it's true - muahahaha) and have been spending my days hanging out with the 'Adelaide group' which is largely brilliant! This is a very peaceful city. I wonder what it was like when David Bowie played here. Did he disturb the people living near by? Did he wake up the birds and stuffed around with their biological clocks? Did he cause an earthquake? All very possible in this quiet city. :P :P Jess now wants to kill me. Btw, if you want to commit suicide, just drink the tap water. :P :P :P I better watch what I say... I'm sleeping in her room tonight!

Speaking of earthquakes - I am alarmed and greatly saddened by the news of the tsunami that hit Asia. I don't believe I have witnessed such a massive toll due to a natural disaster before. It is quite strange for me to sit and watch footage from Penang and Phuket because I have been to those two places and to learn that the places where we stayed in were completely wiped out is certainly hair raising. I am saddened by the thought of so many people losing their homes and their families... as well as the tourists who lost their lives whilst on holiday. It had to hit during the peak of the holidaying season, didn't it?

I am quite appalled at the lack of importance news channels place on this tragic event which has a death toll far far FAR greater than that of September 11. I remember when September 11 occurred -- "The world grieves", etc etc etc -- constant news footage all day, all night, for weeks. I turned to the news channel this afternoon with my parents and family friends to find NOTHING -- absolutely NOTHING -- on the disaster in Asia. Fox had some Santa Claus special (I'm serious), CNN was talking about business, BBC was having a massive ad-break, Sky News was going on about the weather for a few hours or so. I wonder what kind of frenzy the news channels would be going through if only this tragedy had occurred in the US or England or some other similar Western Civilisation. Okay, so the ad-break is fine because maybe it only went for about 5 minutes. BUT A SANTA CLAUS SPECIAL?!?!?!

I remember when there was a coal mining tragedy in China which killed a small number of people -- I believe in the thousands. It was on page 17 in the Herald Sun. But that's okay of course because no one really cares and the death of a few Chinese people won't really affect the daily lives of ordinary Australians all that much.

Well I can't say too much regarding TV COVERAGE because I haven't been watching a whole lot of it (oh I wonder why). I'm very pleased to see Australia getting off their arses straight away to help out the victims of the tsunami. That's Australia for you -- always ready to lend out a helping hand. And that's what I like most about this country of which I call 'home'. Sometimes, though, you wish we knew what and when to stop in terms of 'helping other people'.

Um. And I have nothing else to say.

Other than I am a bit tired.

And that I should go to sleep.

But I'm not quite sure whether I want to.

Yes. Quite.

Up for 28 hours -- WOO!
12/24/2004 08:37:00 PM

Okay okay okay -- it is 9pm and I spent the day sleeping. Wheeeeeee!

Yesterday I got up at 6am to go to work at Autoliv. Some seatbelts had failed the previous day and so Zel, Jose, Larry and I had to try and get 3 shots done as quickly as possible before 9.30am. This is because it was the last day and we weren't supposed to be doing work at all but just bludging, opening Kris Kringle presents and going to La Mirage reception for the big company Xmas lunch.

After Autoliv, I came home and tried to get some sleep because I had a shift at A|X that night. Yes, 12 midnight to 12 noon the next day. I couldn't sleep because I had too much sleep the night previously and so I lay in bed like a zombie and tried to conserve my energy by not moving. Made me feel like shit! And I missed out on Dad's birthday dinner because of it too. :(

So it was -- Georgina, the grease monkey by day at Autoliv with my spanners, power tools, nuts and bolts setting up seat belts on the crash dummies; and the retail shop assistant by night folding dainty dainty expensive clothes for dainty dainty rich people. Well, maybe not that rich. I was just trying to make myself sound important.

I am surprised at how well I survived last night! My body was fuelled with coffee and V constantly. I felt like a zombie walking around. And WHAT ON EARTH ARE PEOPLE DOING SHOPPING AT FRIGGIN' 3AM IN THE MORNING?!?!?!? Some people are FREAKS. We shut the store at 3.30am to my RELIEF so we could do sale set-up. It's quite fun doing things in a zombie state.

Come 7am and I was already dying. I had been up for 25 hours already and it was strange enough to see the sun rise while at work. I got to leave early at 9am, thank heavens. I don't know how I could have lasted til 12 noon!

I have uploaded a few photos from the camera... :D

Here are a few from my parents 50th Birthday Party :)

Mum and Dad cutting the cake!

And here are a few from the Autoliv Xmas party... so you know who I'm talking about when I blog ;)

THE KILLERS !
12/22/2004 06:00:00 PM

Whether or not The Killers' gig totally tainted the rest of my living days or not is still questionable. My left ear is still ringing loudly since Friday night. On Saturday I woke up not being able to hear much at all. I couldn't hear a range of frequencies but at the same time, some high pitched sounds would feel as though they were coming from inside my brain. When I talk all I could hear was myself. It was totally bizarre and alarmed me to the highest degree however my music listening experience was taken to a completely different level. I heard a Doves song on the radio and all I could hear were the drums and very muddled vocals.

I went to see a doctor today to check up on my ear. My hearing has recovered and my right ear is prefectly fine but my left ear! I mean, four whole days of ringing! It has never been this bad. To my complete and utter surprise and relief, the ringing significantly subsided today although it is STILL ringing somewhat mildly in the background and a slight pressure on my ear drum. The doc said there is some inflammation in the ear and that my ear drum is fine. The ringing should go away once the inflammation dies down. Thank god!! It is driving me crazy! And to freak myself out further, I read on the internet that the ringing in the ear for some people NEVER cease. Please please please don't let that happen to me!!

Apart from this slight health complication another slight health complication occured during Betchadupa's (the support band) set. I explained to the doctor how I felt nausea and almost completely lost my vision and felt like *dying*. I thought I had been drugged but apparently I just have very low blood pressure! How about that! Yes yes, terribly exciting news.... now on to the gig!!

The Killers are absolutely AWESOME. I do not have words to describe how much I am in love with the front man! I still don't know his name, by the way. Before the gig, I had no idea about the band itself. I just really loved their album Hot Fuss down to the last note. I tend to do this nowadays -- having no particular interest in a band apart from their music. I don't really care what the artist is like, what they wear, what they are into, as long as I love their music is all what matters. Isn't that right folks?

I didn't have any expectations but I was half anticipating that they were really ugly. For SOME STRANGE REASON. None of which I can pin point to. However, to my great great great surprise and somewhat even a huge sigh of relief, they are JUST SO COOL (imagine myself bash each letter on the keyboard as I typed that phrase in capital letters) and the frontman is inconceiveably GORGEOUS. Just picture a younger and MUCH better looking version of Morissey. Yeap, uh huh -- now THAT's what *I* am TALKING about Y'ALL!

Before they came on stage, the whole place was pitch black and "You're just too good to be true" was played through the PA. As soon as that came on, I knew it was going to be a very special night. And it was. They came on wearing suits -- not the Franz Ferdinand smart casual vintage look -- but full on BLACK TIE dress code. Yes, I almost fainted. It was all just too good to be true :)

A very short set and they didn't even play every song on their album. I didn't mind though because "All these things that I have done" was their closing song and it was shear and utter bliss. I had no idea so many people loved this song. The whole crowd chanted "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier!" I loved every minute of the show -- "Andy You're A Star" is AMAZING live hearing those heavy drums and bass pulsating through my body. The lead guitarist slightly reminded me of Robert Smith from The Cure. The hair and some facial features.

They are truly a fantastic live band -- BAND for that matter and that is highly impressive considering they are fairly new. I could go on forever about the show but that's boring for you all to sit through. One thing for sure is that it was was very fine gig experience and I hold it in very very high regard. I'm just so happy and relieved to continuously learn that there are such fantastic bands around these days. Bands that are doing their own thing, making brilliant music and being completely classy at the same time. Reminds me of a particular artist who I have a great particular interest in! ;) My faith in music has been restored!

Go the Killers!!!

A Merry A|X Christmas!
12/13/2004 08:03:00 PM

Last night was the Melbourne A|X Christmas party at Fiesta Restaurant on Toorak Road. The theme was basically "Clint Eastwood", so say hello to a bunch of crazy cowboys and cowgirls!

It was a pretty fun night although half of the Chadstone A|X bunch weren't there! Most of the party went out to a gay club called Diva afterwards. I really wanted to join them but I had to get up at 6am the following morning so I decided to skip it. Damn. Every time I get the chance to go to a gay club with a bunch of great people circumstances prevent me from doing so. *sigh*.

We had some nice Margaritas and Sangrias throughout the night though I must stress that I don't think there was ANY alcohol in those drinks... Well, not much anyway! :( Skimpy. :P

Anyway, here are some photos!!

My chaddy friends Romy & Genevieve!

Meet my new baby 12 string :)
12/11/2004 03:56:00 PM

Today I acquired my very own 12 string guitar of which I have been pining for for a long long time. When I first started the guitar, I thought an electric would suit me. It did but as time moved on I started to play more chords and *preferred* to play chords. One fine day I walked into a guitar store to try out a 12 string to see what it was all about and it was love at first strum. That subsequently started my infatuation with the item.

This is my new little (or should I say big) baby pie!

And a nice close-up. Look at all those strings! ;)

I haven't played guitar for so long so now my finger tips really hurt. Y'know what song absolutely kills your fingers? Queen Bitch. I'll never ever play that song again! Until my fingers are strong enough again, of course ;)
