THE KILLERS !

Whether or not The Killers' gig totally tainted the rest of my living days or not is still questionable. My left ear is still ringing loudly since Friday night. On Saturday I woke up not being able to hear much at all. I couldn't hear a range of frequencies but at the same time, some high pitched sounds would feel as though they were coming from inside my brain. When I talk all I could hear was myself. It was totally bizarre and alarmed me to the highest degree however my music listening experience was taken to a completely different level. I heard a Doves song on the radio and all I could hear were the drums and very muddled vocals.

I went to see a doctor today to check up on my ear. My hearing has recovered and my right ear is prefectly fine but my left ear! I mean, four whole days of ringing! It has never been this bad. To my complete and utter surprise and relief, the ringing significantly subsided today although it is STILL ringing somewhat mildly in the background and a slight pressure on my ear drum. The doc said there is some inflammation in the ear and that my ear drum is fine. The ringing should go away once the inflammation dies down. Thank god!! It is driving me crazy! And to freak myself out further, I read on the internet that the ringing in the ear for some people NEVER cease. Please please please don't let that happen to me!!

Apart from this slight health complication another slight health complication occured during Betchadupa's (the support band) set. I explained to the doctor how I felt nausea and almost completely lost my vision and felt like *dying*. I thought I had been drugged but apparently I just have very low blood pressure! How about that! Yes yes, terribly exciting news.... now on to the gig!!

The Killers are absolutely AWESOME. I do not have words to describe how much I am in love with the front man! I still don't know his name, by the way. Before the gig, I had no idea about the band itself. I just really loved their album Hot Fuss down to the last note. I tend to do this nowadays -- having no particular interest in a band apart from their music. I don't really care what the artist is like, what they wear, what they are into, as long as I love their music is all what matters. Isn't that right folks?

I didn't have any expectations but I was half anticipating that they were really ugly. For SOME STRANGE REASON. None of which I can pin point to. However, to my great great great surprise and somewhat even a huge sigh of relief, they are JUST SO COOL (imagine myself bash each letter on the keyboard as I typed that phrase in capital letters) and the frontman is inconceiveably GORGEOUS. Just picture a younger and MUCH better looking version of Morissey. Yeap, uh huh -- now THAT's what *I* am TALKING about Y'ALL!

Before they came on stage, the whole place was pitch black and "You're just too good to be true" was played through the PA. As soon as that came on, I knew it was going to be a very special night. And it was. They came on wearing suits -- not the Franz Ferdinand smart casual vintage look -- but full on BLACK TIE dress code. Yes, I almost fainted. It was all just too good to be true :)

A very short set and they didn't even play every song on their album. I didn't mind though because "All these things that I have done" was their closing song and it was shear and utter bliss. I had no idea so many people loved this song. The whole crowd chanted "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier!" I loved every minute of the show -- "Andy You're A Star" is AMAZING live hearing those heavy drums and bass pulsating through my body. The lead guitarist slightly reminded me of Robert Smith from The Cure. The hair and some facial features.

They are truly a fantastic live band -- BAND for that matter and that is highly impressive considering they are fairly new. I could go on forever about the show but that's boring for you all to sit through. One thing for sure is that it was was very fine gig experience and I hold it in very very high regard. I'm just so happy and relieved to continuously learn that there are such fantastic bands around these days. Bands that are doing their own thing, making brilliant music and being completely classy at the same time. Reminds me of a particular artist who I have a great particular interest in! ;) My faith in music has been restored!

Go the Killers!!!

    Hola George,

Well Sarah told me I should cruise on through to your blog for your thoughts on the Killers. Great that someone else loved their gig as much as I did. Brandon Flowers (the unnamed front man ;) ) surprised me too, as to how much a natural showman he is.

Apparently their sets haven't been short at all. I thought it went really quick, but I was chatting with some people afterwards who actually timed it (I have no idea why...) and they actually clocked in just over an hour. I think it's a mark of a good live band that they leave making you think you didn't get enough. Leaving your ears ringing is another ;P (although I already have a faint permanent ring - that's what I get for having a PA stack pointed straight at me from half a metre a way each week at band practice....)

Anyways, I've got a few shots from the Adelaide gig:

and since it's easier just to keep typing here than make a separate comment (shoot me, I'm lazy), have fun here in Adelaide. How long are you here for? You picked a good time, what with all the shops closing and all that ridiculousness. And don't worry, you can't offend me with digs at the size and quietness of the city, nor the water - I agree with you all the way! ;)
