Yes. Quite.
I have achieved something the last day. I travelled to Adelaide.
I sit here at 1.45am at Jess' house (she's my biggest fan, she reads this blog more than she checks her email, I swear ;)) with my brother and Jess' brother, Julian, playing GTA San Andreas right behind me whilst I'm chatting to Andrew on MSN who is multi-tasking and talking to Jess on the mobile phone. We're a complete and happy circle of friends.
Adelaide is actually smaller than I had expected (sorry, Jess, but it's true - muahahaha) and have been spending my days hanging out with the 'Adelaide group' which is largely brilliant! This is a very peaceful city. I wonder what it was like when David Bowie played here. Did he disturb the people living near by? Did he wake up the birds and stuffed around with their biological clocks? Did he cause an earthquake? All very possible in this quiet city. :P :P Jess now wants to kill me. Btw, if you want to commit suicide, just drink the tap water. :P :P :P I better watch what I say... I'm sleeping in her room tonight!
Speaking of earthquakes - I am alarmed and greatly saddened by the news of the tsunami that hit Asia. I don't believe I have witnessed such a massive toll due to a natural disaster before. It is quite strange for me to sit and watch footage from Penang and Phuket because I have been to those two places and to learn that the places where we stayed in were completely wiped out is certainly hair raising. I am saddened by the thought of so many people losing their homes and their families... as well as the tourists who lost their lives whilst on holiday. It had to hit during the peak of the holidaying season, didn't it?
I am quite appalled at the lack of importance news channels place on this tragic event which has a death toll far far FAR greater than that of September 11. I remember when September 11 occurred -- "The world grieves", etc etc etc -- constant news footage all day, all night, for weeks. I turned to the news channel this afternoon with my parents and family friends to find NOTHING -- absolutely NOTHING -- on the disaster in Asia. Fox had some Santa Claus special (I'm serious), CNN was talking about business, BBC was having a massive ad-break, Sky News was going on about the weather for a few hours or so. I wonder what kind of frenzy the news channels would be going through if only this tragedy had occurred in the US or England or some other similar Western Civilisation. Okay, so the ad-break is fine because maybe it only went for about 5 minutes. BUT A SANTA CLAUS SPECIAL?!?!?!
I remember when there was a coal mining tragedy in China which killed a small number of people -- I believe in the thousands. It was on page 17 in the Herald Sun. But that's okay of course because no one really cares and the death of a few Chinese people won't really affect the daily lives of ordinary Australians all that much.
Well I can't say too much regarding TV COVERAGE because I haven't been watching a whole lot of it (oh I wonder why). I'm very pleased to see Australia getting off their arses straight away to help out the victims of the tsunami. That's Australia for you -- always ready to lend out a helping hand. And that's what I like most about this country of which I call 'home'. Sometimes, though, you wish we knew what and when to stop in terms of 'helping other people'.
Um. And I have nothing else to say.
Other than I am a bit tired.
And that I should go to sleep.
But I'm not quite sure whether I want to.
Yes. Quite.

Well the TV in Asia pretty much has tsunami news around the clock! We've been watching CNN a lot and seeing the same footage of the waves sweeping over Penang. Poor Penang!

Penang is also considered in SE Asia ;) SEA as referred to otherwise ;) Well, this was the first day of course. I don't think much importance was placed on it til they realised that over 20,000 people were killed. The first day, the count was only around 1000 or so, I think.
