Let's turn dag into hot!

Okay so let me go all "Martha Stewart" for a while. Today I cleaned out my wardrobe and had a look at the clothing that I no longer wanted. In that pile I picked up a few items that had the potential of becoming something better than it was. And thus:

Exhibit A: 5 year old Giordano jeans that look really daggy on me.

Here are those daggy jeans:

As you can see from this photo that I already had cut it up but realised I forgot to take a photo of the actual thing and so you will notice the dodgily placed leg bits. But let's just pretend that I haven't done anything to it yet.

Next, put on the jeans and decide what length you want it to be. Always cut less than what you want because you can always cut more later. Mark the jeans with a black marker pen (or if you've got resources, a proper textile pen). Take off jeans - at this point you can choose to work in your underpants or slip on a pair of trackies. I chose the underpants option because frankly, I'm too lazy.

Use fabric scissors as they are super sharp (you don't want jagged edges due to unsharp scissors) and cut along the pen lines. Like so. You can look at other shorts of yours to determine the best 'cut'. So you should end up with something like this:

Here you can choose whether you want to go further in the process or not depending on what kind of shorts you want. If you want it plain and simple, this is where you should stop. If you want something a little bit more destroyed, hack at the hem to give it some whiskers and rub areas of the shorts with a damp cloth (this should remove some of the blue dye).

I have decided to paint on one of the backside pockets:

Here I'm trying to create a few whiskers - just to break up the solid line of a 'scissor cut'.

The finished product (crappy photo... it's hard to take a photo of your own ass):

The red 'SD' design is the official logo for my new clothing lable "Stellar Drella", named after Drella (Andy Warhol's nickname) which in itself is a cross between 'Cinderella' and 'Dracula'. "Stellar" is because I think Warhol is amazing and he gives me a lot of inspiration.

Now go and find treasures lurking in your wardrobe! ;)
