"Congratulations Michael Moore...
For doing fantastically at the box office and failing miserably at the ballot boxes" A little snippet from Today Today, the afternoon show on Triple J that tends to mock every thing political.
I had a quiet and rather short-lived laugh to myself at the irony and the cold hard truth such a short moment on the airwaves.
"Congratulations George W. Bush! For being elected by the people of America... for the first time!"
This is for sure great to ease some of that post election disappointment. Laugh it off and move on. But it's not going to change the fact that America is moving more towards division, exclusiveness, unfairness and simply put, further and further away from equal rights to all.
And don't think that because I'm an Australian, I don't need to be so interested in another nation's business. Of course I do. We all do! For one thing, this is the United States Of America! The way Bush is handling the US economy is going to affect OUR local economy -- by running the US into such deficits isn't good news for us. And if you have a Prime Minister like John Howard, God help us.
But the majority of my disappointment is because of the disappointment of the number of friends in America who strongly and passionately supported Kerry to oust the current and corrupted regime. The fact that they have to live in the US in such a state by having such a leader is not fair.
I am some what relieved to an extent that Australia isn't all too bad and so I don't have too much to complain about. But to my American friends, I watched the election all day with the hope that change was in the air for America (and for the world), only to be deeply disappointed as soon as the results became palpable. I'm also deeply sorry to have to hear the news of some of you deciding to move out of the US because of this. Things like this should never ever have to happen... but it is... and it can't be farther away from the truth - quite like that Michael Moore quote above.
So yeah, apart from what made up most of my day yesterday, today I studied really hard to pack everything about Electrical Engineering ECE 2002 in my brain before heading off to work. I decided to read the text book and amazingly, it helps. A little concentration can get you far ;)
Tomorrow is another day full of study.
Right now though, I have another big thing to worry about. It has been plaguing my mind since it all started. My mother has been feeling sick lately and a recent check-up at the doctors found a small hard lump in her right breast. A mammogram and even an ultrasound (twice, in fact) could not detect the lump (but it can be easily felt by hand) and so yesterday, she had a check up at a breast specialist. It will not be until tomorrow when we will know the result. My mother has been most beautiful by being so positive. I pray that everything will be okay.
Well, its midnight and I should go to bed and prepare myself for another full day of study! YAY! Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics are the most exciting things I've ever come across! :P
